Provenance |
When the Bear Creek camp was established, a substantial community formed at Port Renfrew. The logging operation was taken over by BC Forest Products in 1947. By 1953, the population at Port Renfrew numbered 1,000, with the majority being employed by BCFP. British Columbia Forest Products Limited was born out of the Argus Corporation acquiring the private Vancouver Cedar & Spruce Company Limited. Founded by E. P. Taylor, BCFP was a forestry company that operated from 1946 to 1986. BCFP operations included timber production, pulp and paper, veneer, plywood and transportation. For many years, it was considered to be the second largest forest company operating in British Columbia. Fletcher Challenge Limited of New Zealand purchased BCFP in 1987 and merged it with Crown Forest Industries. (From First Growth) |
