The Island Lumber Company leased property from the Cowichan Lumber Company during the 1920s and 1930s. At the time, John D. Kissinger was the president, of whom the camp was initially named after. In 1929, it is reported that there were nearly 200 loggers working at the camp until it temporarily closed during the depression. The name of the camp changed in 1934 to Camp 3, at which point it was taken over by Industrial Lumber Mills Co. (ITM). It's possible his last name was Watson. Given the date and that the men here worked at Camp 3 (Cowichan Lake), they worked for Industrial Lumber Mills Co. Photographs mostly depict Cowichan Valley(?). |
