Description |
Photograph depicts Saddletank No.1055 (locomotive only) on the tracks, stopped next to some scaffolding, being watered up. This photograph depicts the backside of the locomotive as well as the backs of three men. No. 1055 is a 90 tonne locomotive and was the main line engine on MacMillan Bloedel's Nanaimo Lakes operation. It is a 2-8-2 (Mikado) type locomotive. It is owned by the City of Port Alberni and operated by the Western Vancouver Island Industrial Heritage Society. A saddletank is named so because the water tank sits on top of the boiler like a saddle sits atop a horse. |
