Provenance |
The steam donkey pictured here was the first steam donkey in Squamish. It was brought in by Allan Barbour, a pioneer who started the first large scale logging company in Squamish. Mr. Barbour would eventually sell out to a man named Mr. Yapp, who incorporated Squamish Timber Company in 1907. Some years later in 1912, Allan Barbour would lose this steam donkey. A group of young men known as the "The French Boys," Arthur McIntyre, Fidolle Laviolette, Amedy Levesque, and George Laviolette, won the donkey in a poker game after Mr. Barbour refused to sell it to them. Mr. Barbour would return to horse logging to save up for another steam donkey and The French Boys formed a partnership called the Laviolette, McIntyre, and Levesque Logging Company. |
