Mayo Lumber Company was founded by Mayo Singh in 1908. Mayo Singh was originally from India and in 1918, the Singh brothers moved to Paldi which was west of Duncan. They had made the move to Vancouver Island due to the depletion of timber supplies in the mainland. The Mayo Lumber Company was located near Lake Cowichan and was very diverse as they hired Japanese, Chinese and East-Indian workers. |
