Provenance |
Photograph is part of an album depicting Green Timbers Nursery operations and development. The Pacific Highway stretches from San Diego, California to Surrey, British Columbia. The trees pictured were old growth trees and were the only remaining stretch of virgin forest that lined the highway. The trees spread 5,000 acres. Despite opposition, these old growth trees were felled in 1930. Before the last tree was felled, the BC Forest Service set aside a fourteen-hectare reserve for replanting. This became the site of Green Timbers Nursery, British Columbia's first production forest nursery. |
