Provenance |
According to a letter from the donor, the photographs of this donation are of the mill at Fanny Bay and logging operations on Homfrey Creek [Channel] run by the International Lumbering Association which represented a large number of co-ops in Canada and the US. The head office was in Indianapolis, Indiana. Mr. Ed Fricke was the manager and the donor's father (Mr. Dearing) was the assistant general manager from 1945-50, which is possibly the timeframe these photographs were taken. The logs being dumped and boomed in these photographs were likely about to be transported to the Fanny Bay Mill. At some point, the Fanny Bay Shingle Mill and Homfray Creek Logging operation was owned by Forest Industries Limited. The logging operations and mill were bought by Northern Timber Company Ltd. in 1951. The Homfray Creek/Channel operation closed down in 1956. |
