In 1937 Timberland Lumber Company entered into an association with P.B. Anderson in the formation of the Salmon River Logging Company, with J.G. Robson as president. Salmon River Logging Company had a camp between Kelsey Bay and the river mouth which included homes for its employees. MacMillan Bloedel eventually acquired the camp and it became known as the Kelsey Bay Division (From: the New Westminster Archives). The donor, E.E. Robinson, worked as a Log Scaler from 1943-45 at Salmon River. A Scaler measures the cut trees to determine the scale and quality of the wood. MacMillan Bloedel Limited was a Canadian forestry company with headquarters in Vancouver, British Columbia. In 1951 Bloedel, Stewart and Welch merged with H.R. MacMillan to form MacMillan Bloedel Limited. Bloedel, Stewart and Welch held many timber resources and MacMillan was the first truly integrated forestry company in British Columbia. The two companies had timber holdings side-by-side and there was a natural synergy from this merger. In 1959 Macmillan Bloedel merged with a third company, Powell River Limited. |
