Description |
The 4 Spot, later re-numbered 1044, at Copper Canyon. Note the wooden bridge. Picture taken 1942, and the railroad was abandoned in 1953. Locomotive pictured burned oil but originally used coal. In 1955, it was working at Chemainus Switching Mill & Yards. Locomotive was built by H.K. Porter Company, Pittsburgh in 1924. Information by R.C. Swanson, Chief Inspector of Railways. |

This locomotive was initially owned by Timberland Development company as No. 4. It then went to the Victoria Lumber and Manufacturing company still as #4. It was later re-numbered No. 1044 while still with Victoria Lumber and Manufacturing company. MacMillan Bloedel acquired it and it kept the number #1044. It is on static display at Chemainus where it spent the entirety of its career. |
