Provenance |
Frank Peter Yankoski was a logger who worked at Copper Canyon after World War II. The Copper Canyon Camp was built c. 1944. At its peak in the late 1940's, there would be around 200 men working in the camp. The Copper Canyon railway was abandoned in 1955. From Frank's obituary, published in the Times Colonist, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, 4 March, 1995: Frank was raised in Russell, Manitoba and resided there there until he volunteered for service in the Second World War. He served overseas, mostly in Northern Italy with the 13th Field Ambulance Service Corps. After being discharged in 1945, he moved to Vancouver Island where he worked as a logger at Copper Canyon. Returning to Russell, he worked as a mechanic at CN Rail. In 1950, he moved to Winnipeg and in 1960 joined the City of Winnipeg as a transit driver. He retired from that position in 1985. |
